Our Commitment to Accessibility
NurseKind AI is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including students, faculty, and administrators with disabilities. We believe accessible education technology is essential for inclusive nursing education and are dedicated to providing an equal and effective experience for everyone.
Accessibility is not just a feature—it's a fundamental principle in how we build and maintain our platform.
Conformance Status
The NurseKind AI platform conforms to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines ensure our platform is accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including:
- Visual disabilities: Blindness, low vision, color blindness
- Auditory disabilities: Deafness and hearing impairments
- Motor disabilities: Limited mobility, inability to use a mouse
- Cognitive disabilities: Learning disabilities, distractibility, memory limitations
We regularly test our platform with assistive technologies and conduct both automated and manual accessibility audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
Accessibility Features
Our platform incorporates numerous features to ensure accessibility:
Keyboard Navigation
- All functionality is accessible via keyboard without requiring a mouse
- Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
- Logical tab order throughout the interface
- Skip navigation links to bypass repetitive content
Screen Reader Compatibility
- Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy
- ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) labels and landmarks
- Descriptive alternative text for images
- Clear form labels and error messages
Visual Design
- High contrast ratios meeting WCAG 3:1 minimum for UI components and 4.5:1 for text
- Information conveyed through multiple visual cues, not color alone
- Resizable text up to 200% without loss of functionality
- Clear, readable typography with appropriate spacing
Content & Interaction
- Clear, concise language throughout the platform
- Predictable navigation and consistent interface patterns
- No time-based content restrictions that cannot be extended
- Error prevention and clear recovery instructions
Audio Recordings & Transcripts
We understand that our core functionality involves audio recordings. To ensure accessibility:
- All audio recordings are automatically transcribed with speaker identification
- Transcripts are available immediately after recording
- Written AI feedback accompanies all assessments
- Platform navigation and controls do not rely on audio cues
Note: While the platform itself is fully accessible, the assessment process is designed for students practicing verbal patient communication. Alternative assessment methods may be available through your institution for students who require accommodations.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
NurseKind AI has been tested with the following assistive technologies:
- JAWS (Job Access With Speech) screen reader
- NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) screen reader
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- TalkBack on Android
- ZoomText magnification software
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software
We test on current and previous versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best experience.
Known Limitations
We continuously work to improve accessibility, but some limitations currently exist:
- Third-party embedded content (such as calendar scheduling widgets) may not be fully under our control but we select vendors with strong accessibility commitments
- Generated PDF reports follow accessibility best practices but may have limitations depending on the PDF reader used
We are actively working to address these limitations in future updates.
Institutional Accommodations
For institutional partners, we work collaboratively to ensure students with disabilities can effectively use our platform:
- Documentation available for disability services coordinators
- Support for implementing reasonable accommodations
- Training materials in accessible formats
- Consultation on integration with institutional accessibility tools
Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We are committed to:
- Regular accessibility audits and testing
- Incorporating user feedback from people with disabilities
- Training our development team on accessibility best practices
- Staying current with evolving accessibility standards
- Addressing identified issues promptly
