Sim lab teams Group scenarios

Grade the whole group, not just one student

A group of students works one patient scenario together. Faculty run the session, and the group gets one shared score, using the same NCJMM and AACN Essentials rubric individual assessments already use.

01 The problem

Sim labs run in teams. Assessment tools don't.

A lot of clinical simulation is built around groups: two or three students working one patient scenario together, dividing up assessment, communication, and intervention. Individual recording tools force that back into a one-student, one-patient shape it was never in.

Faculty end up picking one student to "count" for the recording, or running the same scenario multiple times so everyone gets an individual turn. Neither reflects what actually happened in the room.

Group Assessment records the scenario as it's actually run: the whole team, one patient, one grade.

02 How it works for your program

Built for the way group scenarios actually run

Roster or anonymous

Naming students is optional

Tag participants from your course roster, type in names by hand, or skip names entirely and just pick a student count. A group session can start with nobody named yet.

Up to 8 students

Sized for a real sim lab group

Cap of 8 participants per session, matching how sim lab groups are actually built rather than assuming a pair.

Same rubric

One grading standard, not a separate one

Group sessions are scored on the same NCJMM and AACN Essentials rubric as individual assessment. The grading pipeline combines every student's speech into one side and excludes the patient. It doesn't grade students individually within the group.

Web only

Runs from the faculty dashboard

Faculty and faculty admins record group sessions from the Group Assessment tab on nursekindai.com. No mobile app step, no separate login for students.

03 Running a session

Three steps, faculty-run start to finish

01

Add participants, or don't

Pick students from the roster, type in names, or switch to anonymous and just set a student count.

02

Record the scenario, or upload one

Faculty records the group working the scenario from a browser, the same recording flow as individual Assess, sized for more voices in the room. Already have a recording? Upload an MP3 or MP4 instead. An MP4 is also analyzed for what the group did, not just what they said: posture, attention, appearance, reported as one team result with time ranges, as evidence for faculty review.

03

Get one shared score

The session is transcribed, graded against NCJMM and AACN Essentials, and the group gets one result. Roster-linked students see it in their own results too.

Group encounters count toward the record

A group session's shared score folds into the same cohort AACN Domains Evidence Report as individual assessments, counted once per encounter, not once per student, so it never inflates the mean. Every named participant still gets their own credit in the per-student appendix. Anonymous sessions count toward the encounter totals; they cannot be attributed to a specific student.

04 FAQ

Questions about group assessment

The same NCJMM and AACN Essentials rubric used for individual assessment. Every student speaker is combined into one side of the transcript, the patient's speech is excluded, and the group gets a single shared score, not a per-student breakdown.
No. Faculty can tag participants from the course roster or type names in, or start anonymously by picking a student count instead. A name is never required to start recording.
Up to 8 students per session.
No. Group Assessment is a separate, faculty-run session type for team-based scenarios. Individual Assess still works the same way it always has for one student, one patient.
No, it's web only. Faculty and faculty admins run it from the Group Assessment tab on nursekindai.com. The mobile apps stay recording-only for individual Assess and Practice sessions.
Yes. Faculty can upload audio or video of an existing recording instead of recording through the browser: audio on the Upload Audio tab and video on the Upload Video tab. It's graded the same way. Audio uploads (up to 60 minutes) are in every plan. Video uploads (up to 40 minutes) are part of the Complete plan.
When faculty upload an MP4 of a group scenario, NurseKind AI also looks at the video and reports six behaviors audio can't capture, as one team verdict per behavior: posture at the patient's eye level, attention toward the patient, undivided attention, no sustained judgmental body language, professional appearance, and a visual ID check. It never identifies or compares individual students on video. Each behavior is marked observed, partly observed, not observed, or not visible on camera, with time ranges as evidence for faculty review; it does not change the group's score. Faculty confirm everyone in the recording consented, and the video is deleted as soon as it is analyzed. A wide camera angle that holds every student and the patient gives the best results. For a video of a single student performing a procedure, faculty can also run a skills check (hand hygiene, vital signs, medication administration, sterile field and gloves, Foley catheter, or a skill your faculty define); it is not available on a recording with several students, and group results stay at the team level.
Yes. A group session's shared score folds into the same cohort AACN Domains Evidence Report as individual assessments, counted once per encounter rather than once per student. Every named participant also gets credit in the report's per-student appendix. Anonymous sessions count toward the encounter totals but cannot be attributed to a specific student.
Yes. Faculty can adjust the group's overall score with a reason, which every participant can see. The original AI-generated score is always kept alongside it, and each change is logged. The clinical judgment and humanistic care scores, the rating, and the competency scores in the Domains Evidence Report stay as the original AI scoring.
